Liverpool have a number of players out on loan but how exactly are they getting on?
Of course, the Reds do not need all that much help in their starting XI, as they are so far clear at the top of the Premier League; they are 25 points clear of second-placed Manchester City and are on the verge of winning the title.
They have 10 players out on loan, per the club’s official website, ranging from striker Rhian Brewster to goalkeeper Loris Karius; Football FanCast takes a look at how they’re getting on.
MARKO GRUJIC – HERTHA BERLIN
Grujic has spent the past two seasons on loan in the Bundesliga.
He has made 45 appearances in total for the club and, this season, has made 22 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals in the Bundesliga and also registering one assist.
Can you name the result these iconic Liverpool images belong to? Give it a go now…
He has just 14 senior appearances for Liverpool to his name, and will be aiming to break into their midfield next season.
RHIAN BREWSTER – SWANSEA CITY
Brewster, one of the most prolific strikers in youth-team football, joined Swansea on loan in January.
He scored 13 goals and registered 10 assists for the U23s, and has hit the goal trail for the Swans; in total, he has made 11 appearances, netting four times.
An excellent, pacey forward who has scored 20 goals in 23 England U17 caps, he is taking the steps towards perhaps becoming Liverpool’s senior striker.
NATHANIEL PHILLIPS – VFB STUTTGART
A 22-year-old centre-back, Phillips has spent the season in the second-tier of German football.
In total, he has made 19 appearances, with the club currently second in the table, six points behind leaders Arminia.
He has played just once for Liverpool, and one has to think that he will probably leave once the summer comes around.
OVIE EJARIA – READING
Ejaria spent the second half of last season on loan at Reading and re-joined them in the summer.
A versatile central midfielder, he has played 35 times this term, scoring three goals and registering four assists.
An England U21 international, it remains to be seen if he will be given a chance this summer, but he has made eight senior appearances for the Reds.
SHEYI OJO – RANGERS
Working under Steven Gerrard in Scotland, Ojo has been an important member of the squad in the SPFL.
In total, he has made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and registering seven assists.
Still just 22, the versatile winger has played 13 times for the Reds; he could be a bench option next season.
BEN WOODBURN – OXFORD UNITED
Woodburn hasn’t had a great deal of football at Oxford but that is down to injuries more than anything else.
An attacking midfielder, he made 13 appearances at the start of the season but has been out since October with a fractured foot.
He’s 20 and has played for Liverpool 11 times, but this loan deal could well be a step back in his development because of his injury woes.
HARRY WILSON – AFC BOURNEMOUTH
The only player in this list to be playing in the Premier League, Wilson has offered an option to Bournemouth on the right wing.
He has played 27 times in all competitions, scoring six goals and registering two assists.
The 22-year-old has made 19 starts in total in the league and is growing in stature and in confidence; he has played just once for Liverpool and will be out to add to that tally next season.
KAMIL GRABARA – HUDDERSFIELD TOWN
A 21-year-old goalkeeper, Grabara was Huddersfield’s first-choice at the start of the season.
He made 28 Championship appearances, keeping five clean sheets and conceding 45 goals.
However, a head injury has seen him miss the last eight outings.
Grabara is the captain of Poland’s U21 team but has yet to play for Liverpool; another loan spell is likely this summer given his age and the position he plays.
LORIS KARIUS – BESIKTAS
Sent out on loan after the farce of the 2018 Champions League final, Karius has been with Besiktas since 2018.
This season, he has made 32 appearances in all competitions, shipping 46 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.
Besiktas are currently fifth in the Turkish Super Lig, and he is remarkably unlikely to ever play for the Reds again.
TAIWO AWONIYI – MAINZ
This one is an unfortunate one.
A striker, Awoniyi has never played for Liverpool and is not playing for Mainz either.
He has made just six appearances in total, failing to score a goal, and, at the age of 22, one has to think that he could well be on his way out permanently this summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool fans have reacted to a potential transfer bombshell!
