The departure of the Rotterdam-bound Lufthansa charter flight was originally scheduled for 5:20 pm but eventually took off at 6:20. The plane had to be de-iced under the freezing weather conditions in Munich for several minutes which led to the delay. The flight finally landed in Rotterdam at 7:35 pm. The hour delay meant manager Vincent Kompany and star player Jamal Musiala could not fulfil their media commitments as the pre-match press conference at Feyenoord Stadium was scheduled for 7:45 pm. Upon reaching the airport, Kompany and Musiala were driven in a shuttle van and the media interaction finally happened at 8:23 pm.
