Arteta visited the Nusr-Et Steakhouse in Abu Dhabi during the Premier League's winter break. During the interaction with the Turkish chef known as 'Salt Bae', whose real name is Nusret Gokce, Arteta allowed him to put a piece of meat in his mouth, which drew immense criticism from several sections of Arsenal supporters.
Manchester United legend Ferdinand, who had Salt Bae at his wedding, also did not let go of the opportunity to take a swipe at Arteta and insisted that it's something only an Arsenal manager would do.

Speaking on Vibe With Five, Ferdinand said: "He [Salt Bae] was feeding some of the guests at my wedding like that. If I’m paying for that he ain’t feeding me nothing, not having it, but he was going around some of the guests doing that. A Man United manager ain’t doing that, only an Arsenal manager would do that type of stupidness. Pep [Guardiola] ain’t doing that."
