Indeed, Pablo Hernandez came off in the third minute against Fulham, and with the Spaniard reportedly out for a month Leeds need to figure out how to cope without him.
Unfortunately, United had a brilliant Hernandez alternative at the club this summer, but he ended up departing Elland Road.
Of course, we’re talking about Samu Saiz, and Phil Hay’s recent comments seem to suggest that Leeds are missing the midfielder at the moment.
“The problem Leeds have is that Hernandez is a mile out on his own when it comes to creating chances and dictating play. He hasn’t actually been that impressive this season but there’s no substitute for him when he’s injured. Saiz is the closest thing Bielsa’s had.” Hay said on The Athletic.
These are some damning words from the journalist as he says that Leeds don’t have a substitute for him when he is injured, and even more painfully, he suggests that United had a perfect alternative just a few months ago.
Nobody has really kicked up a fuss about Saiz’s departure since he left, but perhaps Leeds are missing him more than they realise now that they’re without Hernandez for a significant portion of the season.
Meanwhile, Leeds fans have been reacting as Phil Hay has confirmed one January departure.
