With Luka Modric named as FIFA’s ‘Best’ player this year and now the Ballon d’Or winner, we take a look at the 20 best players in the world right now, according to FIFA.
As we know, what FIFA thinks and what the football public believe can be totally different, just ask Mo Salah who shockingly won FIFA’s Puskas award.
Thanks to the guys at football researchers at TicketGum.com, we can now compare what FIFA and the people consider as the best 20 players in the world in 2018.
Incredibly, both only agree on one player’s position, Neymar’s!
20th – Antoine Griezmann
According to FIFA, Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann is the 20th best player in the world.
Griezmann helped France win the World Cup in Russia in 2018 by scoring four goals and was even awarded man of the match in the final.
FIFA think he’s 20th, the People believe he’s only worthy of 23rd!
19th – Thibaut Courtois
Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois helped his nation reach their second ever World Cup semi-final in 2018.
The 26-year-old also got his dream move as he signed for Real Madrid this summer from Chelsea for £35 million.
However, his start to life in Madrid hasn’t been the best one, FIFA rate him as 19th, the People have him as 37th!
18th – Sergio Aguero
The Argentine may have had a World Cup to forget but his Premier League form has been brilliant.
Already this season the City man has scored eight goals in the league and has surpassed Thierry Henry as the highest scoring foreign player in the Premier League.
Despite this he’s not a FIFA favourite in 18th, the People would put him in 12th.
17th – Gareth Bale
Largely thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo, the Welshman doesn’t seem to get the plaudits he deserves.
FIFA have him down as the 17th best player in the world right now.
The People however would rate him as 7th, probably thanks to his Champions League performances and record in front of goal.
16th – Giorgio Chiellini
According to FIFA, Chiellini is one of the best centre-backs in the world at the age of 34-years-old.
At the rock at the Juventus defence, Chiellini will be hoping that Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival will bring him a Champions League winners’ medal.
The People feel he is overrated by FIFA and have him down as the 66th best player in the world.
